5 Numbers to Know If Your Marketing Is Working

If your marketing report is mostly likes, views, and followers, it is telling you about attention, not about money. Here are five numbers that tell you whether the marketing is paying for itself.

1. Leads per month

How many people raised their hand: filled out a form, called, sent a message. This is the top of the funnel and the first number to watch.

2. Cost per lead

Ad spend divided by leads. It tells you how efficiently you are getting attention that turns into real inquiries. Compare it only against your own history and your own category.

3. Lead-to-booking rate

Of the people who raised their hand, how many booked? If this is low, the problem is often follow-up speed or an unclear offer, not the ad.

4. Show rate

Of the people who booked, how many came? Reminder texts and an easy way to reschedule usually help.

5. Cost per new customer

Total marketing cost divided by new customers. This is the number that decides whether marketing is worth it. Compare it with what a new customer is worth to you over time.

Put them in one table

Once a month, write the five numbers in a row. After three months you will see a trend, and trends are what let you make decisions instead of guesses.

If you do not have these yet

Start with the first two and ask the front desk or whoever answers calls to note where new customers heard about you. That alone gets you most of the way.

Quick answers

What is the most important marketing number for a small business?

Cost per new customer. It combines everything: the ads, the follow-up, and the sale.

Are likes and followers useful?

They can show attention, but they do not pay bills. Treat them as a side metric, never the goal.

How often should I check my marketing numbers?

Weekly for the quick ones (leads, replies), monthly for the full picture (cost per new customer).
